Hello Holidays!

I don't know about you but the thought of decorating my home for the holidays, hosting get-togethers, getting cozy by the fire with some hot cocoa, and putting adorably wrapped gifts under the tree has got me really excited! No, I'm not one of those people that decorates on November 1st but I do like to be prepared for when all the events come around. Which to me means ordering my holiday goodies now and not waiting till the last minute! We have lots of holiday style utensils and rolling out NEW this year - gift labels! Good for gifting even after the holidays are over.

Cheese Knives

Photo via Stacy McCann, Every Little Thing Blog
I was thrilled to see this pop up on the food blog Every Little Thing! Every once in awhile you find a blog that seems a little more original and sincere than the others, and that's Every Little Thing, to me.
Here's what I'm currently drooling on from over there: Pumpkin and Chorizo Stuffed Shells,   Praline Bacon, and a fresh Citrus Salad with Feta.

I hope you foodies out there will take Stacy's advice and scoop up some of our cheese knives for your hostess gifts and foodie holiday gifts! You can find them here.

DIY Kits... Options, Options, Options!

Have we mentioned how we're just a littttlllle bit in love with our DIY kits?
Let me give you the quick run down: the kit includes 20 blank ice cream spoons and 20 vinyl stickers, specially cut to exactly fit onto the handle of the spoon. The stickers are fun and easy to adhere, and hold fast once in position. (Don't worry, the kit comes with simple instructions!)

Why use our DIY kits?
Look at how bright and bold the colors are! In many cases we can only do single color printing on our utensils when doing it by hand, here we have great color combos, including sparkly metallic gold! The colors are non-fade, non-smear, and you get to do it yourself, which is just plain good times.

It comes in a cute little package, shown top right, which would slide so easily into a holiday stocking!!

Donut Broches - Wear Your Food!

I bought myself a Donut broach from Michelle's Creature Type booth at a craft festival earlier this year. I was really instantly obsessed.

I got the idea to sell a few other really well done handmade items and went all the way to NYC to go to the Renegade Craft Fair. I came home empty handed, and realized it was silly that I didn't see what was right before my eyes. Michelle's donut pins really belong in Sucre Shop's store!

So now we have them! A collection of donut pins by Creature Type for Sucre Shop and I am so thrilled. I hope you'll pick one up - well, one for yourself, and one to gift. They are SO cute. To see more art from Creature Type, visit their store!

Home, Sweet Home!

I love this place! I am not from St. Louis, but moved here 5 years ago and call it home. I've posted before about my favorite party supply stores in St. Louis, and now I'm moving on to other things.

We've got a great community here of artists, makers and small business owners... thanks for stopping by to read about some of my favorites!

Billy Goat Chips
Before moving to St. Louis with my husband's job, we were brought here on a "meet me in St. Louis" tour of the city, complete with recruiting expensive dinners, tours, talks, etc. Little did they know, all they really had to do was give me a bag of Billy Goat Chips and I would have been sold. What do they put on those things?? I am not really a potato person, I don't love fries and I don't love chips. But I beyond-love Billy Goat Chips. Try them. That's all.

Kakao chocolate
From their website:
Fresh cream, real butter, vanilla bean seeds - no extract. The finest spices, nuts and liquers, crafted into velvety confections and hand-dipped into a special Kakao blend of chocolate.
Sounds amazing, right? It IS! They have locations in two of our favorite shopping districts in town, in Maplewood and also off Cherokee. Want to know what else they do? Chocolate tastings! I have one scheduled for 20 of my nearest and dearest in the holiday season, and I can't wait!

Indie Mats

An business based on an idea so simple and wonderful if makes you pause and wonder why you never thought of it. Indie Mats are, well, mats. Except they're so much more exciting because instead of a boring solid mat, these are beautifully designed with colors and patterns you will want in your home. You can use them inside your picture frames, or better yet, mount your photos or artwork in an Indie Mat, throw away those old frames, and stick your Indie Mat right to the wall!
These mats are made in a variety of sizes and designs, including designs by founders Emma Hand and Anne Sommers, and also a newly released set designed by 1canoe2 and Amy Butler.

Cheree Berry Paper
Collaborations include: Jonathan Adler, Kate Spade, J. Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, Darcy Miller, Dylan's Candy Bar... I mean, come on! This is an amazing list! Cheree Berry paper is just classy and beautiful.

My favorite thing on their website? The header on their party invitation says "I'm sorry, what's an evite?"

HA!

Princess Nimble Thimble Dolls
I met the creator of these dolls a few years ago through a friend and was instantly taken with her and her creations! These dolls are in the #5 spot for top sales in the "dolls" category on Etsy, and believe me, they are in high demand! She lists them, and BOOM, they're gone. Not kidding, it's crazy.

They're bendy dolls with wire cores, happy faces, and hand cut and sewn - originally designed, I might ad - clothes. My daughter has a small collection. I play with them often.

Fitz's

I just like to go in and pick up a 6 pack of rediculously good soda, including flavors like coffee, hip hop pop (like a Dr. Pepper), key lime soda and classics like grape, orange cream and strawberry. We love to eat in their restaurant when they're busy bottling on the line and we can watch all the action.
Favorite float? The Mocha Magic. Coffee cola with chocolate ice cream, hershey chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Happy hour at Starbucks has nothing on Fitz's.

What's yours??
If you are a local artist, crafter or small business owner, we'd love to hear about it! Please comment and let us know!

Popsicle Soap!

We found these fun popsicle soaps by Crimson Hill on Etsy and fell in love! The are bright and fun and smell divine. (We put our own little spin on things, of course, by striping the sticks.)

If you're a do it yourselfer, you can pick up our popsicle sticks in our shop. If you're a ready-to-go kind of person, stop by Crimson Hill for party favors and great gifts, and little indulgences for yourself.

Outdoor Movie Night!

We're celebraing warmer weather and the end of the school year with an outdoor movie screening! For info on how to get started, visit this article on setting up your outdoor theatre.

Once you've got the technical side down, it's time for the fun part: popcorn!

We've made our own popcorn bowls using a roll of tickets. Check out our DIY to find out how we did it.

To protect the ticket bowl and make it reusable, we layered it with aluminum foil before loading it up with popcorn.

We set out a few topping: cinnamon sugar, parmasean mixed with a little garlic salt, and trail mix (candy coated sunflowers and craisins), which we're serving with our striped scoops.

Another great gift idea: give a ticket bowl, some scoops and popcorn! It doesn't get much more fun for Summer.

Shoestring Magazine's Unique Review

I am always grateful to magazines for including Sucre Shop, but this one takes the cake!
